MOTOR CYCLISTS COLLIDE.

ACCIDENT NEAR KNIGHTON.

THREE MEN INJURED.

A serious motor accident, which might have proved fatal, occurred between 3 and 4 o'clock on the 12th inst. on Hare's Green pitch, a dangerous hill on the road leading from Knighton to Presteigne. It appears that Mr Vincent Hammond and Mr Arthur Dyke, both of Knighton, were returning on motor cycles from Presteigne, the former riding about 150 yards ahead of the latter. A motor cycle was also being ridden from Knighton by Mr Donald Clegg, with Pte. Sinclair Edwards sitting on the carrier. Mr Clegg met Mr Hammond near the top of the dangerous hill and passed safely, but, on reaching the bottom, came into collision with Mr Dyke's cycle, smashing his own petrol tank and buckling Mr Dyke's front wheel. The three men were thrown violently on the road where they lay unconscious.

Happily, however, two men a short distance away, who were doing some repairs to a motor and who had seen the accident, fetched Dr. Lower, of Presteigne, who attended to the injuries. By this time Mr Hammond, not hearing his friend's cycle following, became alarmed and rode back to the scene. The three unfortunate gentlemen were conveyed to Knighton in cars belonging to Dr. Lower and the proprietor of the Severn Arms, Pen-y-bont, and it was afterwards discovered that, although they had received some very nasty cuts about the head and face, their injuries were not so serious as had at first been anticipated. Enquiries made on the Monday following showed the patients were all progressing favourably. Private Edwards was on a short leave of absence when the accident occurred.
