The Brecon Radnor Express - 21st September 1916

Knighton Tribunal.

MR BACHE AND CONDITIONAL EXEMPTION.

Knighton Urban tribunal held a session on Friday, when there were present Messrs. J. Blower, J.P. (chairman), T. A. Lote, J.P., and E. Probert. Mr Molesworth Ellis attended as the military representative, and Mr J. R. Bache was present in the interests of agriculture. Mr A. Wozencroft appeared in support of an appeal on behalf of Mr E. Stedman (28), a baker and deliverer in his employ. He had tried but could not get a man over military age to do his work. This man had passed in Class A for general service, but, if he were taken, a large part of the business must be given up. The military representative reminded the tribunal that the man had belonged to the Territorial Force and was a trained man. One month's exemption was allowed.

The Brecon Radnor Express - 18th April 1918

We regret to learn that Pte. E. Stedman fell in action in France on March 24th. He was a member of the Territorial Force, and joined the regular Army under the Derby scheme. "Teddie," as he was familiarly called, was well known in Knighton, where the whole of his life had been spent, and had been employed successively by several of the tradesmen, his last employer being Mr A. Wozencroft, baker and confectioner, Church Street.

After Edward died his effects were sent to his father. These were for two payments:-                            £7. 16s. 10d.

                                                                                                                                                                 £4. 10s.

                                                                                                                                                       Total  £12. 6s. 10d.
