The CWGC have Richard with the name Steadman, it is not known how this came about. The Memorial in Knighton has his name as Stedman.

The Brecon Radnor Express - 31st August 1916
Pte. Richard Stedman. joined the Somerset Light infantry on the outbreak of war and was drafted to France 12 months ago. On July 1st he was reported "missing" but it has since been ascertained that he was killed in action on that date.

News has reached Knighton that Pte. R Stedman was killed in action in France on July 1st.
